Second-label wines awaiting discovery

Bernard Magrez, known as the "composer of rare wines", today lets us discover remarkable «second-label wines» from the same vineyards as their renowned first-label brothers, and coming from younger lots. In the end, wines of an exceptional quality, faithful to Bernard Magrez’s spirit, at affordable prices. Wine-sampling a must.

Cadran de Château Fombrauge: an exceptional wine

Softer tannins, a more stimulating fruit flavour and a more trenchant volume than for the premier wines of the Château, which does not stop it from benefitting from the artisanal savoir-faire and from expressing all the unique features of its soil. A great wine to be drunk quickly, on a bed of fruit and freshness, with a pork roast accompanied by a cep emulsion, for the 2004 vintage, or with a bitter chocolate fondant for the 2005… Our mouth is already watering.

Price: 23 €

Douves: gold medal in 2004

50% of merlot and 40% of cabernet sauvignon to which Cabernet Franc (7%) is added as well as some Petit Verdot (3%): Les Douves of La Tour Carnet is a high quality wine of pleasure, and one of the most sought after ones of the Haut-Médoc label. The 2003vintage won a golden medal at the Bordeaux 2004 contest. The 2004 vintage matches well with a roasted goose liver garnished with red fruit chutney, while the 2005 vintage is perfect with pan-fried veal kidneys served with seasonal vegetables.

Price: 21 € and 22 € respectively

Clémentin: 17.5 out of 20 with Gault et Millau!

The famous Gault et Millau guidebook conferred the exceptional rating of 17.5/20 to the 2005vintage! This wine goes well with a roast beef served with a “gratin dauphinois”, while the 2006 vintage is the ideal accompaniment with an assortment of cheese in season.

Price: 39.50 € (2006), 49.50 € (2005)
