Chic or cocooning: Men's fashion trends for the Autumn
Layered fabric, unlikely associations, regressions or futuristic variations: men's fashion this Autumn is bound to explode stereotypes. If you do not know how to choose between the classic, chic or cocooning styles, here are a few pieces of advice to help you out.
"In Winter, do what you want!"
One of the main trends this Winter is that, for once, there does not seem to be any trend imposed as a diktat like in previous years. The choices are multiple and anyone can get inspiration from the designers to fill one's desires of the moment in terms of getting dressed. If you want to feel comfortable in your clothes, try the oversized jumper "Big Black Pull" from Sonia Rykiel and the giant jumper from Yohji Yamamoto. Another option could be a long cardigan. Knitted fabrics, symbol of a cocooned life, are back into fashion. And to give it a more hippie-rock look, wear it on a slim jean. For those still in search of casual looks, try the unlikely combination of a suit jacket with jogging bottoms or hide a smart shirt under an old-fashion cardigan. Dare mixing style and you will look extremely trendy.
Gentlemen prefer plum
In terms of colours there are not many surprises this Winter. The classical beige, grey or kaki are once again mixed with the essential black. However plum and aubergine feature in small strokes (on ties or bags...) or in a more heavy style thanks, for example, to Mark Jacobs's creations for Louis Vuitton. Better to think twice before adopting the full plum look though...
The fur and slightly short trousers (Burberry and Christian Dior) are also back into the spotlights whereas the chic and classical style (Paul Smith's dark jackets, Givenchy's straight trousers or Hermes' extra-thin wool jumpers) remains in fashion, spiced up with a modern and eccentric touch.
The 2007-2008 Winter definitely offers a wide range of possibilities.
