Infiniti, Nissan’s Luxury Division was truly lacking a sporty type worthy of its name. That gap has now been filled with the Essence concept-car presented, at last at the 79th international Geneva motor show. Under the spotlight is a luxurious touring coupe driven by a very environment-friendly fuel/electric hybrid system. The fantastic job of the Japanese manufacturer to integrate the brand on the European scene....
Sculptural and... hybrid
Infiniti: Maybe this name does not ring a bell to you and yet, this year the Japanese manufacturer entered into its 20th year of existence with a bang thanks to a sculptural car concept that is well adapted to environmental constraints and which made a big hit in Geneva. Essence, although not clear from its name, thus imposes itself as a luxurious hybrid touring coupe complete with, under the hood, a 3.7 L (440 horse powers) fuel V6 engine coupled with an electric engine of some 160 horse power. Results: not less than 600 horses and the possibility of moving the sensual profile of this sporty type into urban traffic, by only the strength of electricity. Indeed fans will regret that no version has yet been planned up to this date, but this model represents an important first at Infiniti and let’s us get a glimpse of the exciting technological and stylistic breakthrough of the brand for years to come.
