CNN’s Luxury Life coverage continues with an interview with Marc Michel Amadry, Ebel.

Ebel:today will go for heritage, authenticity.. they will go for real watch making values and, and know-how. and we have all that at Ebel… and, and iconic designs… that are the safe designs to, to invest in the world of today.”

Do you believe that’s enough in this day and age? especially this very unprecedented crisis. it’s been described as an unprecedented economic crisis. do you think all of that is enough?
I think it’s the base to succeed. obviously at the end of the day you have also to be very smart in the way you price the watches. and i could say that in the past few years in the whole watch industry, people have gone sometimes a little bit crazy in the way to position the watch in terms of pricing…. so we need to be smart again and positioning
luxury watches at the price were people feel comfortable for the values they get”.

What kind of pressures are you under this year?
Obviously a pressure on turn-over, on delivering the numbers. but the pressure to make the business happen together with the retailers. retailers are the last link of the chain before the consumers. what worries me this year, will be the ability of retailers to absorb additional inventory”.

At what point do you become risk-takers and move away from reaction. those who do just react to the market?
That’s a very interesting question…. i mean this is something that you cannot plan in advance. you have to feel if it’s right to jump on an opportunity and when it’s smarter to hold on a little bit, and to put in priority the long term vision of the brand. so it’s all about intuitition. you know , it’s a people’s business… the watch industry, the luxury industry. so you have to feel it to make it happen . i think if you are smart you know that there’s an opportunity in this current context to get back stronger again. and to build a safer business over the long term.”
