Meet you on the top!

We had left off with Eric Carlson lastat avenue des Champs-Elysées in the monumental flagship of the Maison Vuitton where he had conceived of spectacular interior and exterior architecture. In the meantime, the architect's abundant imagination and his precise drawing strokes have not been on strike, far from that. A while after, moving to Tokyo, we find this American architect at the head of a luxurious penthouse at the very heart of the Japanese capital. No mononogram suavely cut in this new flamboyant creation, but painstaking details, part after part, to make an urban forest at the top of this mushrooming city. Very impressive works equally due to the pure lines and materials and pure and sublime level of customization achieved. A journey between the heaven and the earth...

 

The roof like a last refuge...

Between the high tech furniture dimension and its elements entirely organized around wood, we would have expected a fairly cold result without any comfort. Or, against all expectations, that's not the case at all. On the contrary, everything has been conceived of in respect of Japanese ancestral customs (removing shoes indoors, ablution and sake ritual, etc.) and to adapt oneself perfectly to the owner's make-up (you really have to see the long chair and its pieces of wood carefully and ingeniously placed to fit with the back bend). Result:  not only is each of these pieces unique, as much in terms of function as form and ergonomics, but also the total atmosphere invites you to a peaceful welcome in this hectic, heterogeneous city.
