The art market has shown a strong resilience to the financial crises and is now reaching its historical climax. In 2012 a total value of over $12.3 billion artworks were sold at public auctions. Rumor has that 2013 will even be stronger. Bidders vied for works by some of the most inspiring and influential artists such as Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Donald Judd, Lucio Wool, Roy Lichtenstein and many more. In terms of investment, the densest segment lies in reasonably priced artworks. The art market is nourrished by a growing number of buyers in all segments of the market. But it isn’t all so simple, while the art market is growing, it’s also more complex than it has ever been before. With the growth of the auction market, there has been a significant increase in the private markets in the number of artists exhibited at both galleries and art fairs. This gives birth to a confusing sense of value, what is it exactly that you need to procure and under what conditions? That being said, art has become a true alternative investment. Art Basel Miami Beach Week doesn’t leave you stranded. A special issue of AroundTown Arts & Culture Magazine for Art Basel provides you with a guide for all the art fairs, and has referenced some of the most important events to attend including some of the most notable artworks on Display. Art Basel is getting ready for what might be the most exciting art week Miami has ever known.
