Verdura Golf & Spa Resort: Viva Sicilia!

Somewhere in Sicily’s Southwest, a stone’s throw from the sea and not far from Slciacca and Agrigento, lies the hilly 230 acres’ Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, with its 1.8 km long private beach. It belongs to the luxurious Rocco Forte Hotel. Give it a try next Summer!

A minimalist and eco-friendly design

If you go for baroque designs, this isn't the place: the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort has got sober lines, impeccably melting into the Sicilian culture and spectacular decor. Facing the strong and wild landscape, architect Flavio Albanese chose an ultra-minimalist and totally contemporary look. Inspired by Mexican architect Luis Barragan, Albanese picked up latin ochers and terracotta, while mixing stone and sand, local mosaic and wood. The 5 star hotel cares about environment: it makes the best of solar energy and water recycling. Ground wise, you can happily cycle through the extra-large domain, or borrow a golf cart.

Really spacious bedrooms

The 230 rooms and suites’ sizes are incredibly large, and their wide private terraces offer a breathtaking sea view (for the lucky ones!) Ambassador and Presidential suites, 169 and 175 sq feet large, each have their private pools, Jacuzzis, outdoor eating corners and three terraces!
As to the spa, the Verdura devoted 4000 sqm to its 11 care cabins with private terraces, 4 thalassatherapy pools, a hammam, a sauna and a fitness studio. You can have it all: anti-wrinkle treatment, weight loss, detox, skin toning, all boosted by natural local resources such as Trapani salt, olive oil, blood orange, volcanic clay, almonds, to name a few… A must in this field! You have to try it to believe it!

Golf and/or gastronomy?

Whether you're an Elite golfer or beginner, this is the place to go! The Verdura Golf & Spa Resort recently hosted the prestigious Sicilian Open 2012 and now allows its guests to play on the very course used by the European Tour professionals. You can follow into the footsteps of Matteo Manassero, Tom Lewis, Branden Grace, John John Daly or Raphael Jacquelin, maybe claiming, the way Thorbjorn Olesen did: “This is the Verdura! This resort is astonishing. The golf course is spectacular, the hotel, fantastic, and food marvellous! » And let’s bet after the 18 holes (even the 9!), you’ll have lost so many calories, you’ll deserve some sweet reward on the grounds and pick up from either starred chef Fulvio Pierangelini or from the 4 restaurants, the 5 trendy bars, a gelateria and wine cellar. For sure, you’ll have to pay the price, but it’s worth it when looking at the quality of the food and the breathtaking vistas you can enjoy…

My advice:
A contemporary structure in a wonderfully wild place.
Ideal for golf lovers, as the holes are just before the suites!
A large swimming-pool to dream or swim. The only drawback: the beach. The sea isn’t inviting, but this may depend on the season…

The Italian chef treats his hosts with wonderful food, and I really enjoyed the local olive oil.
My heart is set on the suites facing the golf course and the sea, with a superb private terrace where you can have breakfast and, last but not least, an inner yard to take shelter from the hot sun.

The spa also have several pools, one of them indoor, and a huge Jacuzzi , plus an ice-cold pool for a keeping in shape!
