Extreme luxury

In the heart of the Marais, the Pavillon de le Reine spruces-up

Paris is full of timeless, intact places that have been preserved over the years.  So let’s take a minute and stop on the Place des Vosges, reminiscent of the words of the poet: “There, all is order naught amiss: comfort and beauty, calm and bliss.”  Perfect architectural ensemble, this square is now home to numerous art galleries, but was also home, in the past, to a few illustrious people such as Victor Hugo.  It is here, in the heart of the Marais, slightly set back from the square, that the Pavillon de la Reine, thus named in honour of Ann of Austria who spent some time there, is located.  Shaded gardens, a bold façade and a historic décor serve as a backdrop for this historical hotel.

Charm and good taste on every floor

Imagine a boutique hotel, set in a private stone courtyard. One need only walk through the double glass doors for the magic of history to start operating.  In the small reception area, the atmosphere is a bit outdated.  Here, time takes a deep breath and you breathe!  In the blink of an eye, the library, dressed in warm colours, captures your attention, as does the room opposite this one, more modern and looking out on the parish garden for an aperitif.  Two different places, two different atmospheres.  Then it’s off to the rooms and suites, all of them cosy and uniquely styled: beams, tall mirrors and wooden chests, or modern furniture of dark wood, are just examples of the décor’s diversity.

Change and continuity: a recipe for success

Product of a close collaboration between Madame Chevalier and her brother, the Pavillon de la Reine is now 25 years old.  For the past few months, Jérôme Chevalier, son of Madame, has been running the hotel in a manner that is in keeping with the family spirit and history, all the while offering innovation and originality.  Madame Chevalier, worldwide traveller, bargain-hunter and collector, has succeeded in bringing her own personal touch to the project.  Their objective?  Making light of timeless historical codes by adding contemporary touches and new elements of design to this 17th century townhouse, using old and natural materials such as wood and stone in unexpected ways.  As for the hotel’s exterior façade, it seems grown, lightened and modernised by the glass structure that now adorns the entrance.  Inside, six pillars bring a certain harmony to the lobby area.

Nestled in the basement, a unique well-being experience: Spa de la Reine by Carita…

A great stone staircase will take you from the reception hall to the spa.  Two treatment booths, a fitness room, a Jacuzzi and a steam room make up this place designed as a sanctuary of relaxation and serenity.  The finished, sculpted, natural materials, the Cascais limestone from Portugal answering to the warmth of the oak floors, or the trickery of light… everything here reflects the architect’s unique and modern approach. Here, Carita offers hotel guests and residents a complete line of treatments and massages.  Facial and body treatments, beauty…  The Spa de la Reine is like the jewel in the crown of the Pavillon de la Reine.
