Enjoying winter to the fullest in Quebec!

With its impressive snow cover and vast natural spaces, Québec is the place to be for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers and adrenaline junkies.Marked trails, snow-capped peaks and icy mountainsides offer a host of outdoor opportunities. However, to enjoy winter in Quebec, it is important to know how to dress to stay warm.

Unspoilt nature

Québec boasts a rich native heritage that includes snowshoeing and cross-country skiing through spectacular landscapes. Originally practised by the Amerindians ice fishing is enjoyed everywhere. Once the ice is thick enough, little hut villages pop up on the frozen waters of the Fjord-du-Saguenay and Lac Saint-Jean. In Montreal, novices or old hands alike enjoy ice fishing on the northern bank of the Saint-Laurent. Whether for a single day trip or an expedition lasting several days, with forest accommodations such as igloo building to sleep in overnight, the experience is sure to be unforgettable!
In the northern territory of Nunavik, Puvirnituq Inuits guides proudly share their ancestral know-how and age-old values handed down through the generations.

A traditional mode of transport

In the Great White North, the dogsled puts you in touch with nature as it lets you bond in a special way with man’s best friend. Dogsled teams normally consist of four to nine dogs, generally Siberian huskies or Alaskan malamutes. Other breeds include the Greenland or Eskimo dog and various crossbreeds like the Alaskan husky.

Sunrise boreal

The boreal forest that covers the northern part of the territory of Québec is host to an extremely varied flora and wildlife. Hunters, fishers and nature lovers have always enjoyed it. Ice-skating for miles on end along frozen pathways that meander through maple forests in Mauricie or in the Laurentides is only topped by spectacular boreal sunrises.
In Quebec, Chute-Montmorency is at its most spectacular when seen from the aerial bridge, the belvédère de la Baronne or the gondola.
The best way to take in the whole city of Montreal is from the air, in a hot air balloon or a seaplane, or a ski-plane!
Starting in November, the temperature hovers around freezing and the chances of snowfall increase correspondingly. From mid-December to mid-March, the temperature ranges from -5 °C to -20 °C but can change without warning within a 24-hour period.
