Saint James Paris: So British!

Ideally located in the 16th arrondissement in Paris, a stone’s throw away from the Bois de Boulogne, the Saint James Paris is one of the most discreet and sought-after locations in Paris while remaining well away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  Walk-through.

A historical location

At the end of the 19th century, it was from there that hot air balloons took off…  It was here, on the grounds of Paris’ first aerodrome, that Madame Thiers, widow of the French president, Adolphe Thiers, chose to establish the Thiers Foundation to enable students from good families to pursue their education and to excel in the study of sciences. In 1986, the establishment was bought by a British businessman who turned it into the Saint James Club, in traditional London style.  In 1991 the owners of the Relais Christine, in the heart of Saint Germain, made it into the hotel it is today, the only chateau-style hotel in Paris. Other than it’s 48 luxurious rooms or suites, the hotel is also home to a library-bar containing excellent alcohol…  As well as over 120 000 books, vestiges of the Thiers Foundation.  Quite impressive.

An English atmosphere and a local cuisine

It is an intimate place, with an exclusively British atmosphere where brown leather club chairs rub elbows with antique woodwork.  One feels at home here, sheltered from the winter cold, drinking Single Malt Scotch Whiskies, smoking a puro from their impressive cigar cellar and eating a classic club sandwich or Italian cooked meats.  The terrace, where one can go for some fresh air, is a godsend in the summertime. There you can enjoy the French cuisine of chef Cyrille Robert, for whom good food is synonymous of simple flavours and quality products.  After working at Trois Marches, Ledoyen, at the Jules Verne, the Meurice, and at Maxim’s, Cyrille Robert began his work at Saint James Paris in 1998.  His cuisine is made up of regional specilities.  The menu, that changes along with the seasons, is enriched everyday by new dishes inspired by whatever products were bought at the market that morning.  If a Mediterranean influence is evident in the “stuffed pasta shells with leek fondue and safran sauce,” other French regions are represented on the menu with for instance, the “duckling fillet from Challans roasted with mace, mashed fingerling potatoes and foie gras”.

Club members and residents can either discover the chef’s latest creations in the luminous and traditional-style dining room with view of the garden or entertain guests in a more private setting in the Club Room.  In the spring, the terrace full of flowers, protected from the crowd by a garden and hidden behind the most unusual hotel in Paris, makes us forget that we are in fact less than a mile away from the Champs-Elysées

 A private club

The service is discreet and impeccable, with only the chirping of the birds to disturb the serenity of the place, you are assured a restful stay at Saint James Paris. A place to keep on the qt.  Most of all, the Saint James Paris has the particularity of being a private club.  An ideal and privileged place to invite and meet business relations.Club membership allows free access, for you and your guests, to all the services offered by Saint James as well as by the nearly 150 affiliated clubs around the world, such as the Princeton Club in New York or the Jockey Club in Hong Kong.

As for the hotel, the access is available to all, club member or not, and all can have access to the services offered by the Saint James Paris as well as to the library-bar, the restaurant and the fitness club equipped with a sauna, Jacuzzi, tanning bed and fitness equipment. And the height of luxury…  parking is available inside the hotel’s compound, in a large shaded courtyard.
